Elimu Foundation is a youth- and women-led non-Governmental and non-profit making organisation working at the grassroots to advance education justice, community empowerment, and leadership for change. We believe the people closest to the problem must be at the centre of the solution

Our Projects

Ndoto Scholarship Fund

Education sponsorship for youths and women from marginalised societies to get quality vocational education to help them get jobs. In Tanzania 30% of women gets married before they are at the age of 18. Majority of these women come from economically marginalised societies and families. We have a lot of testimonials that giving scholarship to these women helped to totally emancipate them. Kindly join us to support one girl today.

Single Mothers Economic Empowermet Project

We organise workshops for single mothers, train them on business skills and give them business mentoring support. This includes products packaging, marketing and digital marketing. This project has a lot of insights as trainers and mentors encounters a lot of cases of gender violence which prevents women from achieving business prosperity. We therefore include issues of human rights and women rights, interpersonal skills as well as feminism approach to realize single mother empowerment.

Fighting Sexual Abuse In Schools & Higher Lerning

There are lots of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation cases in schools and higher learning. As technology advances a lot of women in higher learning institutions are involved with cyber bulling scenarios which affect the emotionally and sometimes lead to suicide. Elimu Foundation works with higher learning institutions to support them develop sexual exploitation policies, gender desks and support them to ensure a working gender responsive system.

Conservation & Nutritional Health

Tanzania is currently experiencing severe weather extremes as a result of a changing climate. Increased temperatures, prolonged droughts and erratic rainfall are resulting in significant impacts to public health and livelihoods, with climate projections indicating that the situation is expected to intensify (WHO 2018) Increased drought is largely affecting public health, increase water scarcity, impacting food production and compromise poverty reduction efforts. Elimu Foundation is currently planting trees along natural water sources to protect them. It is also distributing fruits trees and vegetable plants in public institutions and rural villages to support nutritional health in the rural communities.

Mama Nyuki Program

Empowering Women. Protecting Nature. Building Resilience.

Mama Nyuki is Elimu Foundation’s flagship program that transforms frontline victims into frontline leaders. When drought hits, it’s women who suffer first and recover last. In northern Tanzania’s protected-area communities—home to the Maasai, Hadzabe, and Gatoga—women endure the harshest climate shocks yet remain excluded from solutions.

Through sustainable beekeeping, entrepreneurship, and grassroots leadership training, Mama Nyuki equips women in Arusha, Arumeru, Longido, Monduli, and Ngorongoro to build climate-resilient livelihoods and lead conservation from the ground up.

Esuvat Kivuyo, a dedicated Maasai leader and changemaker, brings profound insight and passion to her role as Programs Director at Elimu Foundation. Driven by her own experiences as a Maasai woman, Esuvat met Moses Ngereza while actively addressing the challenges faced by women and youth. Their shared commitment to youth leadership, women’s empowerment, and educational access sparked a strong partnership, ultimately leading them to establish Elimu Foundation together. Esuvat combines her professional expertise in healthcare with a Diploma in Community Development, uniquely positioning her to design programs that truly respond to the community’s needs—championing education justice, empowering local leadership, and transforming lives.

Executive Director With over a decade of experience in senior management roles overseeing nonprofit programs and grant management, he brings proven leadership, strategic vision, and a deep understanding of community dynamics. Having grown up within the Maasai community, he intimately understands the pastoralist way of life, fueling his passion for human rights, climate resilience, and poverty eradication. Driven by firsthand experiences and a strong commitment to change, he co-founded Elimu Foundation alongside like-minded colleagues such as Esuvat Kivuyo and Eva Shirima aiming to address and transform the very challenges they’ve personally encountered within their society.
